I like poetry, stories, fiction, puzzles, manga, Go, football, and anything beautiful and fascinating. Here I mostly keep animation and manga: works I have watched, characters I care about, long answers I have written, and a few poems that grew out of them.
Honestly, I simply want them to be together. A relationship lets a character show details that never appear when that character stands alone. Following a pairing lets me understand each person better—and become more certain of why I like them.
A pairing is to characters as a map is to sets, a morphism to objects, an analogy to theories.

What moves me most is the determination they share beneath their very different temperaments. Under a tree one summer, Ryuuka asks, “Aren't you going to aim for the nationals with me?” From that moment, both of their lives change course.
Toki knows that pushing her future sight will exhaust her, yet still confronts Teru Miyanaga. Later, Ryuuka enters the final carrying Toki's trust. At that point I care less about the score than about how each carries the other's hope.
I cannot help imagining them at thirty, looking back on that tournament together. Hence the old signature: “May the world be at peace; may Toki and Ryuuka marry.”
The ending was unbearably cruel to Sekai. In 2011 I wrote her a poem and left a moon for her on the other shore. Fictional characters can leave perfectly real feelings behind.
This was the first yuri manga I consciously sought out. It follows a high-school girl working in a tea room and the older manager she loves; the emotions and inner lives are drawn with wonderful care. From here I would keep reading Miyabi Fujieda: Kotonoha no Miko to Kotodama no Majo to, Alice Quartet, and the rest.

Touhou Project began as ZUN's bullet-hell games and grew through its characters, music, print works, and an enormous culture of fan creation. The two regulars on my desk are Reimu Hakurei—the shrine maiden who resolves incidents—and Alice Margatroid, the magician and puppeteer from the Forest of Magic.
I have not written a public long-form answer about Touhou yet. For now, the two Fumo figures that keep turning up beside my work are the most direct recommendation I have left.

For Zhihu I chose Makiko Himekura from Book Girl; Sayaka Saeki from Bloom Into You has also been an avatar, and she appears on the cup beside me. These are small things, but they are often the most honest recommendations.
For a while I wrote “Currently absorbed in MyGO” directly in my status. Later I changed my Google Scholar avatar to Ether from Ave Mujica. Those two choices are probably the shortest and most accurate record of that period.

Some poems are for animation characters; some are for songs, rivers, a difficult year, or an equation. I do not see much need to keep those worlds apart.

I started at about six and once came close to the professional track. Go and mathematics both begin by reading the position, finding a breakthrough, and looking for the best move. The difference is that a Go game gives you only a few hours. Mathematics lets you take the long route.
At twenty-one I was at MIT, taking five or six mathematics courses, reading an eighty-five-page paper line by line, and occasionally sleeping in the mathematics lounge. I also walked beside the Charles, read poetry, played Braid, and had just entered anime through Student Council's Discretion.
I have listened to Jane Zhang for many years. In football, I have long supported Spain and followed Messi. Sometimes watching is enough; sometimes it turns into a poem or a post.
